Daily Devotional For January 13, 2013

  • http://bible.us/r/6v.1.L I just finished day 1 of NIV Once-A-Day Walk With Jesus Devotional Bible reading plan at YouVersion.com

My thoughts: I have a hard time with all the lists of names in the Bible. I find them pretty boring to read and usually skip over them unless I’m reading The Bible In 90 Days Plan like I am now. I know they are important but I still have trouble with them. My favorite name for Jesus is Wonderful Counselor! I like the part in today’s devotion that says: “You can think of Matthew 1 as a long list of names. Or you can view it as the roots of the Savior who came as Immanuel to be with you, as Counselor to provide wisdom, as Prince Of Peace to heal a relationship. He came wearing names that revealed his purpose and character.” I never thought of Matthew 1 that way and maybe thinking of the other lists of names might help me during my future readings. Hope everyone has a great day!

  1. I think that is why all those names were written down – even in the Old Testament. To see the history of Jesus (or Moses) and to show that he came from a long line of of people that were of a good background.
